According to the Bacardi, a soldier celebrated the end of the Cuban War of Independence against Spain with a drink. He ordered rum with coke and lime. , and then offered the toast, “Por Cuba Libre” (“For a free Cuba”).
This cocktail is most commonly prepared with white rum. My personal favourites for this drink are the white Rum or the Añejo. The white Bacardi Superior has little flavour and mixes very well with the coke. The Bacardi Añejo, however, has a stronger flavour than the white rum so the cocktail will taste different but the flavours harmonize perfectly. However, Bacardi Ron 8 Años is too strong in flavour, and it doesn’t mix as well with the coke.
Cuba Libre Cocktail
Ingredients
- ice cubes
- Bacardi Rum (Bacardi Añejo or Bacardi Superior)
- coke, chilled
- lime wedges, optional
Directions
Fill a glass with ice cubes.
If used, squeeze the juice from 1-2 lime wedges into the glass. Then drop the lime wedges into the glass.
Next add the rum and then the coke.
The amount of rum used varies with taste. You can add either one part rum and two parts coke, or fill a shot glass with rum and then pour the content into a bigger glass (such as 35 cl) and then fill the glass with coke.
Stir gently.

Cuba Libre Cocktail
Zutaten
- Eiswürfel
- Barcadi Rum (Bacardi Añejo (AOC, bis zu 3 Jahren gelagert) oder Bacardi Superior (weiß))
- Coca Cola, gekühlt
- Limettenspalten, auf Wunsch
Zubereitung
Ein Glas (z.B. 35 cl) mit Eiswürfeln füllen.
Auf Wunsch, den Saft von 1 bis 2 Limettenspalten übers Eis geben und die Limettenspalten dann ebenfalls in das Glas geben.
Als nächstes den Rum hinzufügen und dann die Cola.
Die Rummenge kann je nach Geschmack abgewandelt werden. Man kann z.B. ein Teil Rum und zwei Teile Cola verwenden. Eine andere Variante ist ein Shotglas mit Rum zu füllen und diese Menge dann in ein größeres Glas geben und mit Cola auffüllen.
Leicht umrühren.
